UZBEK OLYMPIC CONTENDERS LEAVE FOR BEIJING, VOW TO RETURN VICTORIOUS

 On August 2 this year the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan which will participate at the XXIX Summer Olympics in Beijing laid wreath to the Independence and Humanism Monument at the nation’s main square in Tashkent, according to the agencies.”It is a big happiness for us to defend the honor of Uzbekistan at the Olympics,” the prizewinner of Athens Olympics boxer Bakhodir Sultanov said. “While we laid wreath to the Independence and Humanism Monument we promised to ourselves to return from the Beijing Olympics victorious since we are supported by our nation as much as President.”
 The athletes, coaches, public and mass media are reported to have participated at the solemn ceremony at the Museum of Olympic Glory in Tashkent held on the occasion of departure of Uzbek delegation to China’s capital.

Those who spoke at the ceremony have said that thanks to constant care and attention on the part of the Uzbek Leader to the development and popularization of sports in the country the Uzbek sports people secure successes at the world sports arenas.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev congratulated the athletes on their participation at the XXIX Summer Olympics and wished them further victories.

58 Uzbek Olympic contenders on 15 types of sports: the Greco-Roman and free-style wrestling, judo, taekwon-do (WTF), heavy athletics, sports gymnastics, kayak and canoe paddling, spring-boarding, cycle racing, swimming, boat racing, light athletics and tennis are going to defend Homeland’s honor in Beijing.

Here in the country, according to the reports, the Uzbek athletes enjoyed all conditions to well prepare to the 2008 Olympics. During more than one hundred team practice sessions they held physical, tactical and technical preparations.

Among the Uzbek Olympic contenders are those athletes who have secured top prizes at the previous Games in Athens and other world championships: Arthur Taymazov and Dilshod Mansurov on freestyle wrestling, Abbas Atoev, Bakhodir Sultanov and Dilshod Makhmudov on boxing, champion of Asia Games and Asia on judo Vadim Menkov, judo champion of Asia Abdulla Tangriev, the world tournament winner on high jump Svetlana Radzivil, as well as one of the strongest race sprinters of Asia Guzal Khubbieva.

Taking a floor at the event Asia champion on judo Abdulla Tangriev, the winner of Asia Games on Taekwon-do (WTF) Eugene Karimova and others thanked President for the care and attention paid to development of sports and comprehensive promotion of sportsmen in Uzbekistan. They have assured the nation’s Leadership that they would worthily uphold the honor of Uzbekistan at the Beijing Olympics.

The Chairman of Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilgizar Sobirov, Speaker of Legislative Chamber Diloram Tashmukhamedova, State Advisor to President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Khayriddin Sultanov and Khokim (Mayor) of the city of Tashkent Abdukakhkhor Tukhtaev are reported to have participated at the ceremony in Tashkent.
