Uzbek State Statistics Committee informs about the decrease of cotton production
“Times of Central Asian” reports that cotton fiber production in Uzbekistan dropped 1,1 % to 728 300 tons in January to February. This information was released by State Statistics Committee, regime closed governmental organization which can only report such common things and no true information on social issues.Production of cotton yarn at textile companies fell 4,3 % in the 2 month period to 22 500 tons, with cotton fabric production down 36 % to 15 450 million square meters.
If we compare to last year, this year Uzbekistan produced 1,1 million tons of cotton fiber. That statistics show that it’s 4 % less than in 2006.
Cotton yarn production increased 4 % to 150 260 tons, while cotton fabric production dropped 22 % to 130 860 million square meters.
Does it mean that the 5th largest cotton producer and the second largest exporter in the world is losing its position on world cotton market? Is it a consequence of prognozed by specialists exhaustion of soil or exhaustion of human resources.
Does it mean that annually production of about 3,5 million tons of raw cotton and 1-1,2 million tons of cotton fiber increases and in short-term perspective will decrease the largest item of Uzbek export?
Or maybe it’s a protest of cotton producers which decided not to meet the gosplan (state order) for cotton production because of warnings of international community on child labor? Though, the government makes everything not to let “the happiest people of the greatest country” know about the scandal on international level…
